#Survival Guide - Schools out and College Awaits

Image
No more Uniforms! Calling Teachers Sir and Miss is long gone  and no more regimented 5 day a week lessons. But now it's time to further your educational career and decide what you want to do!  College can seem like a daunting prospect for any High School leaver, knowing what course is right for you and choosing between a A-Level or a BTEC Course. But have no fear as I have some handy little tips to make sure to choose the right College and Course for you!  So where do you go here? You've got all my GCSE's C to A* Grade and now you're choosing what Course you want to do at college and in real terms what career you want in the future.  Like you felt in year 9 it can seem a strange and concerning task as there are so many colleges offering different types of courses or Apprenticeships as well as traditional routes into Higher education such as A-Levels and BTECS.  I'm actually on that picture on the cover of the prospectus 4 year...

#Survival Guide - Choosing Your GCSE's

Image
Knowing what you want to do in your future doesn't  really come into play until you leave High School for good! But in Year 9 suddenly everyone expects you to know what you want to do in a matter of a year and it's for a very simple reason..  It's GCSE Decision Time!!  Now GCSE Options can be altogether the most confusing thing you do in your adolescent life!  Not only are you expected to know what you want to do as a career which seems a life time away from your 14 year old self.. who might be still getting over the fact that Zayn is no longer a member of One Direction!  But you need to make that decision as soon as possible!  Knowing what you enjoy is one of the key things in choosing your core subjects - every school is different and might require you to do more than the expected Core Subjects recommended in the curriculum.  Your Core Subjects are as follows:  English Language and Literature  Maths  ...

# SurvivalGuide - Managing Homework

Image
Homework can be a bore and a challenge! You've already crammed enough information into your brain for the day and then your teacher gives you what seems to be too much work to do when you get home.  Although it may seem unfair you have to do your homework and the excuse of the 'Dog Ate It' isn't going to work because lets face it.. teachers have heard it all before!  I know Joey.. it's ok!  But never fear as with all my survival guides, I have some handy little tips to make sure you'll complete and do your homework in no time. Homework can seem like a chore!  I know from experience that whenever the 'H' word was mentioned in class right up to University, everyone would suddenly all in unison groan and roll their eyes at the thought of doing more work on top of writing essays and practical work. The thing about Homework with everything else to do with School is all about remembering what you have been taught in lesson and proving...

#SurvivalGuide - Personal Identity and High School

Knowing who you are as a person can be difficult but in a world where fitting into a group or box is the most important thing ever! How do you cope if you don't fit in?  I know what it feels like to be a 'square peg in a round hole' girl. It's something that I hated in my teenage years.  But now as a 23 year old, i've learn't to embrace and love my personality and who I am as a person. It's not easy and certainly scary to not know who you are as a person when you're supposed to be able to find a group of friends and fit into their clique and then box yourself and live like that for the next five to seven years of your life.  It seems so silly, but when in High School, it is important to be able to label yourself immediately! And whatever label you end up with in year 7 can effect you for the rest of your days whilst at school.  When I was at school I was at the bottom of the pile.  I was in fact a very depressed kid who was sufferi...

#Survival Guide : Bullying

Image
Bullying can be traumatic for any victim. But if it is you that is the victim the world can seem a lonely and dark place.  Bullying for whatever reason is not acceptable and having been bullied first hand during high school I know how isolating and lonely the world can really seem.  Being bullied for whatever reason can destroy any self confidence you might have and can lead to serious knock effects in your life such as depression and even self harm.  Whether it's because you don't wear the right clothes or even down to the way you look ( I had this for a long time ) bullies seem to be able to pick you out for no reason other than you are different.  The old saying with Bullies is just to ignore them, but in a age where technology is king and we all live on social networks this isn't the simple answer.  Knowing everyday you have to go to a place where not only do you have to deal with the anxieties and pressures of school and the w...
