Dreams Can Come True!!!

Image
We all have aspirations of what we want to be when we grow older, some of us realise early on that those dreams can change and others stick with us for a lifetime.  When those dreams turn into reality, it can be the most rewarding feeling in the world and the emotions that go with it can be a whirlwind.  But it does take hard work and sticking to your guns and not let anyone get in the way of that dream. You know your potential and you know that whatever you set your heart on the determination is there inside of you driving you forward.  The road to achieving whatever goal you have is there, all you need to do is think in the long term is this really what you want?  I started thinking about what I really wanted for a career when I was little and went through the obvious little girl dreams of being a dancer, a vet, a doctor and then I discovered media via Radio.  I've always been fascinated by the way someone in a studio can be able to reach ...

Time to Get Serious - Aspergers and Depression/Suicide Risk

Image
It's time to talk about something that is still a Stigma even in the 21st Century. When it comes to Aspergers Syndrome the Stigma can be ten times worse. Between the years of 2004 and 2011, 118 women were diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome in the UK. This is a tiny amount of women being diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome, but within that 118 women a proportion also reported in a survey conducted by Psych Central that they experience Suicidal Thoughts and Depression.  This statistic is made even more worrying and food for thought with more and more Disabled Men and Women committing suicide in the UK due to Benefit Cuts and cuts to vital Services that help and support them in their daily lives.  As someone who was diagnosed late with Aspergers Syndrome ( I was 16 years old ), looking back I am apart of that statistic where I would think about committing suicide and even go as far as to plan and also attempt to kill myself on more than one occasion....

The Most Awesome Day Ever!!

Some of you might not know that I was formally a media student.. and although my life has has it's downs over the past two years, 2016 is turning into an amazing year and we haven't even made it through a month yet!  Today has been a dream come true for me as I have been to the BBC for a work experience interview after a long and difficult battle to even get through the doors of a media insitution as big as the BBC.  It feels pretty damn awesome to know that you have been considered for something off your own merit after years of studying and doing work experience only to be told it isn't enough or you haven't got the right skill sets that they are looking for.  To then have someone like this insitution to turn around and give you the green light to go ahead and actually be allowed into a work place and be given the opportunity to progress and learn unique insights and skills that will stand you in good stead for the rest of your life.  Whatever your passion maybe th...

The Undateable's debate

Image
It's one of the most popular shows on Channel 4 showing Disabled singles hopefully finding love with 'Normal' people.  This weeks episode featured a lovely young man called Tom who along with Aspergers Syndrome also has Tourettes syndrome.  Tom who also plays rugby in his spare time has sent Twitter and other British media into a frenzy with people tweeting to say they would like to go out with him. And actually I would as well because we have two things in common, Aspergers and Rugby.  But despite good media coverage of Aspergers Syndrome and other disabilities is it a good idea to have 'Disabled' people take part in a show where they could be mocked for their disability? I've always thought that positive media coverage of Aspergers Syndrome, Autism and any other disability is the way forward for people to finally understand a little bit more about how we live our daily lives, but it does come with some risks and can hinder rather than help.  ...

Hello 2016 - The Year of Positive Change for Mind and Body.

Image
2016 has arrived and already the press are talking about how to make this better than the last.  The latest diets because lets face it in the past two weeks you've eaten more than you should, holidays to plan and aspire to and even what facial products you should use to make yourself glow this year.  But before you start panicking thinking I haven't done anything to kick the year off with a bang or even began to plan what you want to do this year because if you have made a resolution or two you're already struggling on what you should be doing before but still have no idea what you're doing with it.  I haven't made resolutions this year as you might have noticed from my last blog post, instead I have just said to myself I want to make this year positive for my mind and body.  What that means to me is that I keep my mental health on a even keel and try not to over react and think more positively and see the world differently. Instead of being negative a...

New Year : New You- Without The Complicated Resolutions!!!

Image
So it's time to say goodbye to 2015 and hello to 2016. For most people this means a brand new start over with the resolutions that only last through January at best! Whether you love the turn of a new year or not it is going to happen and there is nothing you can do about the pressure of committing to the idea of New Years Resolutions.   Whatever you might be doing tonight, going out with friends or staying in with family even if you had enough of them on christmas day it's time to think what you would like for the new year after all it is a brand new start to turn over a new leaf and try and do things differently.  But don't get pressured into the New Years Resolutions! You know what they are by now and you also know that everyone around them makes them and gives up on them by mid to late January at best due to the fact they made them to difficult or just because they got bored of them.  Instead of getting sucked into the mayhem and madness, enj...

It's Beginning to Look Like Christmas - A #SurvivalGuide Special

Image
It's that time of year again where we all get to throw the diet out of the window, watch rubbish TV and get to spend time with our family.  But for an Aspergers person the preparation for the 'Most Wonderful Time of The Year' can be hell on earth.  I actually thank god for internet shopping!!!  Just the thought of going into a crowded shopping centre gives me a massive anxiety attack before I walk out of my front door.  I love getting people I love gifts, in fact it fills me with joy but at the same time if someone says to me I want to go to the Shopping Centre or Manchester at this time of the year I try my very hardest to get out of going but sometimes that easier said than done!  Being in crowds can be stressful and more terrifying than people realise for an Aspergers person.  People go a little bit mental - just look at black friday last year in the UK, we nearly killed each other over reduced TV's that would've normally been in t...
