#Handbook - Valentines Day or Lonely Hearts Day?

Image
It's that time of year again where romance and slushy music is on in every shop, club, cafe or on TV.  This might be me tomorrow! You can't avoid Valentines Day and even if you wanted to participate in the celebrations or go into a corner and cry and be like Bridget Jones and eat ice cream and drink a lot of wine until you end up listening to all the love songs in the world sobbing on the floor like a crazed lunatic! Yes and this might be me!  And whether we'd like to admit or not being Aspergers is difficult as it is without the whole world finding yet another reason to isolate us and well make me wanna curl up in a ball under the duvet eating Ben and Jerry's (although allergic to Lactose and Wheat!) and block out the possible heart break of the realisation that I am in fact alone on the most Romantic Day of the Year! Or the awful past of actually having a boyfriend and messing it up due to the fact that the autistic me is  someone who cannot cope with ...

Feeling Inspired

A little thought popped into my head and I knew it would not only make an amazing blog post but also an article.  The topic is interesting and I'm enjoying researching the topic.  I will let you know when it is finished. Sophie xxx

The Waiting Game

In a world where everything must all happen at once, why is it that time seems to stand still when you want something? Whether it be hearing back from a job or hearing back on a piece you've written and even back from an organisation that is supposed to help you?  This is something that I am dealing with right now and when you have set yourself goals and targets to get stuff done and out of the way, it is frustrating especially if your mind works at one hundred miles an hour!  Whoever said:  "Patience is a Virtue."  Was of course a very wise person, but in modern life when everything is available and life can move at light speed do we really have time to be patient? Another question that needs to be addressed is with Aspergers do we have not only need to have the patience but actually the mental strength to stop the niggling voice of frustration and doubt from taking over in our heads and driving us insane? To answer the question - we do have th...

#Handbook - Knowing Me, Knowing You

Following on from my last post about personality and Aspergers, the thought about knowing yourself and knowing your partner and how you both work in a relationship is difficult for most normal people.  But as questioned before with Aspergers do we really know or understand our personalities or how in a social situation and even in a relationship - if the Aspergers is the dominant factor? It seems that in a relationship as I can only gather from very few experiences that understanding each others personalities and how you interlink or connect with each other is one of the key factors as well as the obvious biological factors such as being attracted to one another. Knowing each other as well as yourself is something that can aid a healthy relationship.  Any 'Agony Aunt' Column can give you that information and even tips on how to obtain and sustain a healthy and happy relationship which  can be found in many magazines and online.  With Asperge...

Asperger’s Syndrome and Personality - A Thin and Blurred Line

When researching the actual definition of Asperger’s online, many websites pop up including NHS Choices and the Autistic Society but there is no definitive explanation to what Asperger’s is as a whole. So for a sufferer it is difficult to explain who or what you live with if professionals don't even know how to describe or define the condition you have.   However the Oxford Dictionary has a definition: “A Developmental Disorder related to autism and chara cterised by awkwardness in social interaction, pedantry in speech, and preoccupation with very narrow minded interests.” (Cited from The Oxford Dictionary.) In everyday life, there is a constant hunger for other people to know who you are as a person and this falls into personality and traits. With Asperger’s questions are raised to whether: 1.  Is Asperger’s the personality or is it apart of your actual personality traits?  2. Does Asperger’s take control of the person who lives with it? ...

Healthy Living and Aspergers - Is it Easier than it looks?

Everyone has problems with Healthy living or eating and well it's January and we all know what that means: "Tis the Season to Diet!"  We've stuffed our faces over Christmas and really had a little too much to Drink over New Year and after all that food and Mulled Wine has been taken in by our bodies it's common knowledge that January is the time to diet! And it's EVERYWHERE !  If it's not the glossy mags or even your local Newspaper telling you what the best and new fabulous diet is for this year as they all seem to trend then it's the TV and the bombardment and peer pressure to conform and actually lose weight can start to get to every girl whether they have Aspergers or not.  I've talked a little bit about perception of appearance and body confidence before but never fully as a topic on it's own.  And as it is New Year and a New Start to the New You ( Feel free to grab a bucket! ) then it can be a little bit annoying when you...

Dear 2015 - Progress

So it's 5 days into the new year and I'm already starting on some of my Dear 2015 goals. Although they are not really New Years Resolutions, they are more and more becoming lifestyle changes. I've had a little bit of a crappy start to 2015 after getting a chest infection but made some steps to begin quitting smoking and eating healthier meals as well. One of the major things I am doing is applying for jobs and trying to get out there. It is something that any person would and do find stressful but with Aspergers the fear of being rejected is more stressful than anything else. I am excited and proud of myself and I am pleased that I'm accomplishing things already. If you're Dear 2015 let me know via Twitter or comment below and tell me how you are doing. Sophie xxxx
