The Teenage Years - Living Hell

Being a teenager can be a nightmare whether you're AS or not.  Hormones, periods ( Yes I said the P word) and developing into a adult can be difficult especially if you have autism on top. As when being a teenager you're trying to find your place in this world, and with Aspergers finding who you are can take longer. When i was 13 I didn't know where I fitted in, High Schools are a breeding ground for labels and identities and with Aspergers labels and boxes are not the way to go as to fit in you have to be someone that sometimes you're not.  Being bombarded with this stress and pressure to be the perfect student, fit in with the IT Crowd  and be Popular as well as deal with all the physical changes that happen when you go through this period of you're life can make you feel like you won't be able to survive and then eventually the breakdown will occur.  From personal experience when I was 13 to 14 years old, trying to fit in to the perfect crowd and fit into the...

Under Pressure

Image
I really want to put that famous Queen song in here. What I mean by Under pressure, is that my university career is nearly over, I'm in my final semester of my final year and already my graduation looks really expensive!!! But before I can spend over £300 on stuff that I am only going to wear for at least an hour or more and photos that cost a bomb, I have to finish my final project. Overall my university experience has had it's highs and lows, more to the point the lows have hit me harder than ever. It feels like I have had 3 years of constant nightmares that I pay for just for a piece of paper at the end.  I'm not moaning, University has made me develop and handle situations that I wouldn't have been able to handle if I hadn't taken that leap of faith and well everything has it's highs and lows. I'm all tired out from London, although had a amazing time with the best friends! But I'm back into the clutches of reality and the weather up in the n...

Welcome to my world .. Media City UK

Image
So i'm now back in my university building. I talk alot about it and released you guys have never seen it so let me introduce you to my main building and some of the sights of media city UK. The Big Blue Building is my University building that we share with ITV, they live upstairs and see into the third floor of our bit of the building. Media students haven't yet began to make begging signs out of cardboard to get a job. We basically let our experience for ourselves.  Media City is dominated by the BBC, this is their North West home and national base as well as Broadcasting house where the majority of the productions are still based! The BBC and ITV do like using our facilities and the students that are housed here to do work for them. Students are also willing allowed to work sometimes for CBBC and CBBIES which is awesome as we all love to be big kids. Blue Peter is housed at Media City and the Garden is next to the tram stop. It's not as big as the old one though! T...

relief

random title again but i've just had stitches removed and survived a minor op which happened last week.  I sat like a trooper but having any type of procedure in a medical environment can be petrifying for the best of us!  Whether it's a routine appointment to a full on surgery being Aspergers can be a up hill battle of wills within itself.  I have noticed that medical dramas don't really attempt to show how AS people cope, the only one I can think of in the UK is Holby City which did have a Aspergers character undergoing heart surgery.   The character wasn't a girl , of course it was a male! But it was done to an ok standard with the Aspergers character being portrayed as slightly stupid and couldn't consent to surgery without a carer which can sometimes be case in the form of social skills and anxiety purposes rather than the fact that usually AS people will gather as much information as possible to find out what is happening to them. Thats what I did I watche...
