The Doctors

It can be the worst thing in the world to have to go to your local doctors for any person but there is something about Doctors and Aspergers that doesn't mix. By now it seems that I should be able to cope in a busy surgery without batting an eyelid but for some reason I can still feel my skin crawl and hands beginning to shake as soon as i step out of the lift into the waiting area.  Volumes of people in a confined space is one thing I hate all sickness going around as well then on top is the numerous conversations going on around me. Right now i'm sat in a waiting room with my headphones in.  The trick is to make sure again your MP3 player is fully charged and you have some tunes on that may not relax  but just blur out some of the noise!  Keep your eye on the notifications boards as this will notify of you of the doctor wanting to see you. If you can't sit in a Waiting Room  I know that the waiting room is a problem, I hate it but... you can ...

Who am I ? Personal Branding and Aspergers

In lecture and well just watching an presentation on 'Personal Branding'. Now in terms of AS this might be something that we have to adapt. I said in the coming up post that I would be doing different things and well a Light Bulb just clicked on in my head. On this presentation the only questions that popped up were: Who am I?  What is my Unique Selling Point?  When thinking about this, I got confused as I don't really still know who am I as a person and what is my unique selling point. And the focus and energy I have to do a self assessment of myself and breakdown and analyse all my strengths and weaknesses I have as a person.  To breakdown and analyse this I need to look inside myself and as a Aspergers person I have in my head anyway ... Breakdown the ASPERGERS ELEMENT... which seems to be the only thing I kind of Understand in my head.  Now really in simple terms we can look at what personality traits I have which cancels out the AS in a s...

Sorry for lack of posting - will be some great posts on the way :)

Hello, as you know i'm back in university and I haven't had time to blog recently due to deadlines and essays and all sorts of things. I'm planning to do some posts on dealing with : Doctors- how to deal with waiting rooms and anxieties you might feel.  Working on a Deadline- how to deal with the pressure.  Higher Education- Don't be Afraid to Speak Out. Follow your Dreams Those are a few experiences I've had at the moment and this is something that most people find difficult to do so hopefully these little posts will help.  Sophie xxxx

Misinformation

So i'm at media city uk where i thought i'd be doing a lecture today at university to be told after waking up at teb to six in the morning oh by the way your not in this lecture!  NO ONE TOLD ME!  As a disabled student things like this can really mess me up and stress me out.  I have no tips on how to deal with this situation but all I can say is keep calm.  Spouting off at someone isn't going to help although emailing disability is a good idea. As they can communicate in the right way and constructively make a complaint for you.  This isn't the first time university have done this but in my final year this sort of mess up with module information is not accepted well from my point of view as a student especially one who doesn't sleep.

Hello Third Year - What a Stress You Are

Image
As the title suggests i'm in my third year of university now, which is awesome as i've finally made it to last and most important stage of my degree. But the overwhelming challenge is that I have to arrange everything I need which includes Finance and Transport. I was actually on the site of my university at half six this morning!!!  And study no pressure there then. Monday I had a really BAD DAY, I'm not going to lie the panic attacks I had were huge and also I went a little crazy because I had 24 hours to sort everything out. Also just got all the documentation I need for this semester and found out ... Hey you need to do Work Experience as apart of your assessment! Now I have in the past done Work Ex placements, but finding them is difficult at the best of times and it also means contacting people, (which I've just done as a module i'm taking isn't appearing on the internet system we use at University!) That can be a difficult task at the best of times fo...

University + Me = Disaster!!

So I'm due to start university next week after loads of messing about.... So by next week I need to have my loan which still hasn't come through and to be registered.  One of my modules that I really want to do isn't on my timetable I feel like sobbing as I have looked forward to it all summer.  What universities and educational insitutions need to understand is that Aspergers students can't do with this messing about. I have to contact a load of people and I hate doing that ... Emails and phone calls being passed from pillar to post.  I cannot give any tips to you guys really I can't ... I still struggle with ringing a d contacting people.  So my first point of call will be student support who really should've helpped me 2 years ago!!! On a lighter note I have looked into a Post Grad degree that i'm really excited about :)  sorry for letting off steam ... I will post some useful tips soon.  Sophie xxxx

Disruption and dealing with it

So i'm delayed to go to Manchester train station and just been announced that the train is coming now but dealing with disruption is a massive problem.  Any Changes to traveling plans can upset and annoy you due to the fact that you have planed your journey. I was ready to flip out but then the control have confirmed that the train is coming.  If it is out of our control we cannot deal with Changes and with a time limit can be stressful ... all u need to do is keep calm!
