#Survival Guide - Classroom Nightmares

Image
Classrooms can be Nightmares on a daily basis! If it's not your classmates kicking off every five minutes or telling jokes in biology then it might be a teacher that has just had enough!  Whatever the situation for a Aspie girl, High school can be problematic and traumatic so I have decided once and for all to tackle the issues of problematic classmates and teachers as well as surviving lessons that could be a major problem for Aspergers Girls from my own experiences of High School.  High school for me was not a good period in my life. From day one I hated it and if it wasn't the corridors or the other factors of being in a massive building it was the actual lessons themselves. As I grew older and moved up I hated it more and more.  There were many problems I faced along the way and some were just the fact that I had Teachers who were on the verge if not having a mental health breakdown from too much stress and Classmates that just didn't want to be in scho...

Public Transport - The #Survival Guide to avoid Nightmares!

Image
Traveling on Public transport can be not the greatest of things.  Crowds at Rush Hour and the millions of options when it comes to prices can be all to much to bare!  But I have devised some clever tricks to make sure that you can get to A to B without much distress.   Knowing your way around the public transport system whether it be local or not is a tough one. Different parts of the country have different operators and fares and unless you are an OAP you cannot get on a bus anywhere in the UK that is with just one card! So what do you do in a situation where you are traveling to a place you have never been before and have no idea what is going on let alone how much the ticket is going to cost you and whether you'll need to change from a train to a bus for instance. With my volunteering work and soon my career, I have to use different forms of public transport every week if not day for different purposes. My first bit of advice comes in the form ...

#Survival Guide - High School : Navigation and High School Logistics

Image
High School can be a difficult time for any 11 year old starting in a new school. But for an Aspergers Girl the thought of crowded corridors, time limits to get to lessons at the other side of the school building and concentrating on what teachers are trying to teach you can be tough. Don't panic and have no fear as I have come up with trusty tips and tricks to make sure that you can beat the corridor crushes, minimise stress and even be on time for lessons. High School will be a little less daunting and hopefully a little more enjoyable!   This post is all about familiarising yourself with your surroundings and knowing short cuts and assessing which areas of the school are going to be busier than others and at what times.  Starting a new school can be scary and can provoke constant anxiety attacks and many arguments with the parents but in the end we all have to go to school as it is required by law.  Yes that annoying fact does not factor in...

#Survival Guides

Image
Something I have thought about for a long time is introducing Survival Guides for all aspects of coping with the most stressful environments for Aspergers Girls.  The most stressful environments I can think of are educational institutions. From the age of 11 and upwards our life is more complex with not only our bodies maturing but the transition from Primary to Secondary School and the pressures not only socially but in an educational sense.  The #SurvivalGuide is to help girls from the age of 11 through High School to College and further onto Education sharing the secrets and tips and tricks that I have gathered though out my educational career. Starting every Tuesday I will be posting my tips on a variety of issues that have to do with Education.   From how to cope with the logistics of getting around High School and the problem areas that every Aspergers Girl faces until they are ready to move onto the next step in education.  Over the next three ...

Mental Health and Aspergers - What you Need To Know

In the news recently Mental Health services for young people have come under scrutiny after reports showed that many young people are struggling with getting access to the mental health services they need.  This is due down to budget cuts that have affected the money that is being provided to NHS Mental Health services for children and young adults living with complex mental health needs.  A Survey by Young Minds (charity) found: "That more than half of councils in England had cut or frozen budgets for a child and adolescent mental health between 2010-11 and 2014-15." And the figures do not look very pleasing, as reported by BBC News Online:  "Figures released last month showed NHS spending on children's mental health services in England had fallen by more than 6% in real terms since 2010. The cut, equivalent to nearly £50m, was revealed by NHS England in a parliamentary answer." With complex issues rising about the care given to children and ...

Interview With Asperger's Girl on ITV

This Morning is the biggest Daytime television show in the UK and on today's show highlighted the plight of young people with depression and mental health problems. The guest they had on was a beautiful and clever Aspergers girl who at the age of 7 had considered taking her own life. As someone watching I was proud of her for speaking out about her autism and how she had struggled and couldn't cope with normal school and the pressures that she faced as a Aspergers Child. I have got the link to ITV Player so you guys can watch it for yourselves! https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/this-morning Note: It Might Not Work in other countries!  Please take a look!!!
