To Much Stuff So Little Time

So the title might seem a little vague, but over this past week, my life has just exploded. Well it had already felt like it had exploded but I can see 2014 going mental. Life can be hard to actually control, and no matter how many calendars  you have and reminders you still forget something. Appointments, Lectures, Holidays to book and doctors appointments amongst everything else can drive you insane. I carry my life on Calendars and also on my phone and anything else that has access to the internet. It may sound strange but having a schedule that actually functions not just on one platform but many may help as you then have access it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. So what do you do, well here is some little things I do to help remind me of stuff: 1) Write it down everywhere:   Might seem strange to write stuff down everywhere you go, whether it be your notes on your phone. If you have Apple or an Android phone I recommend downloading Google Calendars as it syncs ...

Deadlines, Deadlines, Deadlines

Well to start off.. Happy New Year! Can't believe it is 2014!  So as the title suggests this post is about a little thing that creeps up on thousands of students ... The Dreaded Deadlines! And so it begins the cold sweats, panic, not being able to sleep, sickness, palpitations amongst other nasty symptoms that would make you want to lock your door and hide away for a year to recover.   But in the real we can't do that unfortunately.  So how do you deal with these problems? The simple answer is I have no idea!  The most logical thing to do would be to power through and work out when you're at your best when it comes to doing the work.  Try not to force yourself to work on an essay or an assignment as this can lead to you just staring at a computer screen and wondering why you haven't written a word in over 2 hours and instead have been watching talking cats on youtube( personal highlight of mine!) I do have some little suggestions more than tips but these are simp...

The Doctors

It can be the worst thing in the world to have to go to your local doctors for any person but there is something about Doctors and Aspergers that doesn't mix. By now it seems that I should be able to cope in a busy surgery without batting an eyelid but for some reason I can still feel my skin crawl and hands beginning to shake as soon as i step out of the lift into the waiting area.  Volumes of people in a confined space is one thing I hate all sickness going around as well then on top is the numerous conversations going on around me. Right now i'm sat in a waiting room with my headphones in.  The trick is to make sure again your MP3 player is fully charged and you have some tunes on that may not relax  but just blur out some of the noise!  Keep your eye on the notifications boards as this will notify of you of the doctor wanting to see you. If you can't sit in a Waiting Room  I know that the waiting room is a problem, I hate it but... you can ...

Who am I ? Personal Branding and Aspergers

In lecture and well just watching an presentation on 'Personal Branding'. Now in terms of AS this might be something that we have to adapt. I said in the coming up post that I would be doing different things and well a Light Bulb just clicked on in my head. On this presentation the only questions that popped up were: Who am I?  What is my Unique Selling Point?  When thinking about this, I got confused as I don't really still know who am I as a person and what is my unique selling point. And the focus and energy I have to do a self assessment of myself and breakdown and analyse all my strengths and weaknesses I have as a person.  To breakdown and analyse this I need to look inside myself and as a Aspergers person I have in my head anyway ... Breakdown the ASPERGERS ELEMENT... which seems to be the only thing I kind of Understand in my head.  Now really in simple terms we can look at what personality traits I have which cancels out the AS in a s...

Sorry for lack of posting - will be some great posts on the way :)

Hello, as you know i'm back in university and I haven't had time to blog recently due to deadlines and essays and all sorts of things. I'm planning to do some posts on dealing with : Doctors- how to deal with waiting rooms and anxieties you might feel.  Working on a Deadline- how to deal with the pressure.  Higher Education- Don't be Afraid to Speak Out. Follow your Dreams Those are a few experiences I've had at the moment and this is something that most people find difficult to do so hopefully these little posts will help.  Sophie xxxx

Misinformation

So i'm at media city uk where i thought i'd be doing a lecture today at university to be told after waking up at teb to six in the morning oh by the way your not in this lecture!  NO ONE TOLD ME!  As a disabled student things like this can really mess me up and stress me out.  I have no tips on how to deal with this situation but all I can say is keep calm.  Spouting off at someone isn't going to help although emailing disability is a good idea. As they can communicate in the right way and constructively make a complaint for you.  This isn't the first time university have done this but in my final year this sort of mess up with module information is not accepted well from my point of view as a student especially one who doesn't sleep.
